Dear Me: A letter to my 16 year old self

If I could offer you one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. On every piece of exposed skin, every time it meets the sun. Factor 50, just to be sure. Never, ever, ever lie in the sun with baby oil on your beautiful face. In the future, tans will be a sign of ill, not good, health. Skin cancer will be the most common cancer in Ireland, and Ireland will have one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. You will narrowly avoid becoming a statistic when you have a pre-cancer removed from your face at the tender age of 40. And the cosmetic sun damage will surely be in the post by then.
And always wear a hat. This bit is easy for you – you like hats. Just keep wearing them, especially in the summer. Here are some hats you can wear in the 21st century:
Basic straw hat by Asos
Floppy hat by American Apparel – available in a myriad of colours. This is a wool hat so might be a bit much for our current weather but definitely one that can be worn at other times of the year. Gorgeous.
Boater hat by Topshop. A classic look that will add a summer look to any outfit.
Straw hat by Zara. I love this colour.
Finally, the perfect beach hat by Seafolly.
